OBSERVATION:
Justificative
Besides the ornithological importance of the forested region of the northern coast of São Paulo State, there are little information about its bird’s fauna that were published or that are available for people that are interested in the subject. This is one of the reasons for we doing this rising.
This work doesn’t have scientific pretension and it is being done by Antônio Silveira, being part of the developed activities by the Environmental Program: The Last Noah’s Ark (www.aultimaarcadenoe.com) and also has the finality of observing and rising the bird’s fauna of this region for verifying its preservation status and giving subsidies for suggestions and/or preservation actions, as for making easier for the birdwatchers that goes to this rich and beautiful coast region.Place
A The place for the observing is the region of Jureia beach, in the county of São Sebastião, north coast of São Paulo State, distant 155 Km of the capital, and it is into the complex that is called Atlantic Wood and it is looked up a lot by the surfers.
The vegetation is mainly composed by medium and high coast shoal wood, with some points of regeneration. The place has suffered a lot of anthropic interference that had began with the lots and with the touristic flux that has brought a lot of building of summer houses and some hotelsand inn.
IIt is interesting to be observed that in a part of a lot, there are three squares that by their characteristics provide the diking of water, forming a complex of flood, where are living savage birds as teals, ducks, herons etc. At this flood can be found a good population of Common Gallinule (Gallinula chloropus). There are also some couples of Orange-winged Parrots (Amazona amazonica) that have been doing their nest in the deep trees that have died because of the exceeding of water formed at the place.
The beach, that has around 600 m its good for surf. In each of its sides there is a “point” in a form of a small mount covered of preserved native forest, what permits the existence of characteristic birds of the coast forest (Atlantic Wood). At this places of the beach there is a river on the left side and a small river at the right side, for the ones who look for the sea. The river estuary is a lot looked up by the Fregatas magnificens, that fly over the place. Also at this place the Bulbucus íbis form “bedrooms”. We have also registered the existence of lots of House Sparrows (Passer domesticus), because of the existence of the houses there, that are a little bit more than a hundred.

List
This list doesn’t have any scientific pretension, but just rising the biggest possible number of bird species at the place, for providing, as we have told before, mainly for the birdwatcher who visits Jureia beach, São Sebastião, a reference of the most found birds there.
The observing were done by Antônio Silveira R. dos Santos (birdwatcher) at day periods (commonly between 7:00 and 12:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00) using binnacles 8x30, recordings and photos, mainly at the floods at the lots, and also at the streets that pass through the square with shoal wood. The night observing was little that the reason for not having much night birds in the list.
The species with an X, are because there is some doubt about its existence, needing bigger attention.
The works have been done among 1991 and 1995 and restarted in 2000, going on with sporadic visits. The notes, photos and films are archived in the heap of the environmental program.
