BIRDS CHECKLISTS BY PLACES

Birds from the region of Vila de Comandatuba - Una – BA
The county of Una, Bahia State, has still reminiscent areas of Atlantic
forest, known by its great biodiversity. There are many area of restinga with original vegetation, where live a great
variety of animals.
In 01/30/2010 and 02/01/2010 we (Antonio Silveira and biol.
Maurício Arantes) visited
some of the remaining forest in particular areas in the Comandatuba
Village, specially the Fazenda (Farm) Bolandeira, for our ornithological studies.
We covered about 2 kms
of trail that exits of the cited village until the inner part of the Farm. The
area is plain and covered with restinga, in advanced
stage of renewal. The Village of Comandatuba and the Farm
are on the side of the Comandatuba channel, that includes aquatic
sea birds, practically the same ones related by us in our checklist of birds of
the Comandatuba Island.
In February of 2009, we also made an interesting
visit to the area of the airport of Comandatuba, private
property, situated in the outskirts of Comandatuba´s
Village, within an area of restinga and with an interesting
litoranean savannah, with the presence of birds of cerrado as Black-faced
Tanager (sanhaçu-de-coleira;
Schistochlamys melanopis),
the Black-faced Tanager (sanhaçu-de-coleira; Schistochlamys melanopis) and Capped Seedeater (Caboclinho;Sporophila bouvreuil), all very common in this place.
The airport area is very interesting for bird watching because it has
very little aerial traffic and has much native bushes in its laterals and limits.
Moreover, it is forbidden to enter without authorization. Normally our
observations were in the morning.
